Review of Laws and Regulations
The Review of Laws and Regulations is required on all types of burns conducted on Nature Conservancy lands or on other lands where Conservancy Representatives are directing the fire. It should include a review of the laws and statutes controlling wildland fire practices in your state, county, and local community. It is essential that you know and obey all regulations regarding fire in order to maintain good standing in the community and avoid fines or legal problems. See the legal section of the Global Fire Team intranet site for specific guidance on conducting the review. If uncertainties arise about the applicability or interpretation of any law or regulation, consult your local or state fire control agencies, your Fire Manager, or the Nature Conservancy attorney who covers your area. The Review of Laws and Regulations need not be a written document, but verification that it has been completed must be included on each burn plan in the form of a checkbox on the plan template. The review may cover multiple sites if they are covered by the same regulations, for example, several preserves in the same county. If a written summary of laws and regulations is developed, it should be archived with other fire planning documents. Example: Review of Laws and Regulations for Las Animas County, CO Last updated April 30, 2008.
